The Grand Palace is Bangkok’s most famous tourist destination. Being the most famous tourist destination it is also populated with a lot of con men and they are relentless. Even as you see bus loads of people walking in through the main entrance they will tell you very conviencinly that the Grand Palace is not yet open as the monks are eating breakfast, or that it is a national holiday. Please do not believe them and walk right in.
You can easily spend the entire day at the Grand Palace but be sure to get there early in the morning as it can get very very hot during mid and late day. It opens at 8:30 am to 3:30 pm seven days a week. If you are not a Thai National you will have to pay an entrance fee I believe that it is 400.00 Baht per person.
Like every other major tourist destination in the world there are numerous web sites and books available on the Grand Palace that can give you more information than I ever could. Remember, go early and do not let the taxi drivers or any one else tell you that it is closed.
